Former 'Growing Pains' Actor Andrew Koenig Missing

Police in Vancouver are asking the public for help in locating actor Andrew Koenig, the former "Growing Pains" co-star who has reportedly gone missing in the city.

According to People, the 41-year-old Koenig, who played Richard "Boner" Stabone on 25 episodes of "Pains" in the 1980s, has not been seen since February 14. The actor's father, Walter Koenig, who played Pavel Checkov on the original "Star Trek" series, told the magazine that his son was visiting friends in Toronto and then traveled to Vancouver, where he lived for a time.

While Koenig was expected to return to his Venice, California, home on February 16, Walter Koenig said his son never showed up, and the contents of a letter he received from Andrew (postmarked February 15) concerned him. "He sounded despondent," Walter said. "Nobody has seen this [note] but my wife and I."

Though Walter was adamant that he did not believe drugs played a part in the apparent disappearance, he said such actions were not unusual for his son. "I think it's something that has been a part of his makeup for a long time. There's no single trauma. There's no episode. There's nothing of that nature."

He told the Vancouver Sun that Andrew was "not in a good frame of mind when he called us. He was depressed." The last recorded activity on Andrew's phone is from February 16, with some bank activity around the same time but nothing since.

The Sun's entertainment editor, former actress Maggie Langrick, who befriended Koenig 20 years ago when he lived in Vancouver, said she was worried about him because friends have said Andrew sold some of his possessions before flying to Canada.

An avid environmentalist, Koenig never again reached the heights of his "Pains" years in terms of acting but has spent the intervening years doing standup comedy, editing video, working on documentary films and developing a feature script he wrote and hoped to direct.
